Here are a few things I found interesting as I drove on U.S. 2 from East Glacier to Glasgow, Montana.

Espresso stand in Browning on Blackfeet Nation.
Sears Motel, East Glacier. Very cute. One double bed $69 a night.
Looking west on U.S. 2 from just east of East Glacier.
Entrance to Blackfeet Nation. Made of destroyed material from flood disaster.
Open Range, East Glacier
Welcome to town penguin, Cut Bank
Welcome to town sign, Rudyard
Along U.S. 2 near Rudyard
Lake Shel-oole Campground, a Shelby city park. $25 a night with electric.
Dinosaur guards entrance to Malta museum
One of many abandoned houses on U.S. 2, this one 12 miles east of Havre.
Meth warning signs are everywhere, this one in Harlem.
Statues on hillside on U.S. 2 west of Glasgow.
Nobody home anymore. Along U.S. 2

  2. We drove Route 2 from Fort Peck to US15 in 2010. We were heading to the Sweetgrass Crossing into Canada. As we traveled through the literal Big Sky, we understood why the Unibomber hid out in Montana. For 2-3 miles, a state cop tracked our 32 foot RV with Jersey tags....probably ran a check on us. We stopped at an IGA in Glasgow to get some lunch, which we ate at a rest place. Later 45-50 mph winds blew up and forced us to stop in Havre in a park in the center of town. This was our first trip in our RV, a 31 foot Greyhawk, and to me, still the most memorable.

  3. We're full timers and worked the sugar beet harvest in Culbertson on the east end of US2 in Montana a couple of years ago. At that time, the locals told us to avoid US2 in Montana, especially in the areas of the Indian reservations, due to the very high crime rate along US2. They warned us that many Montana residents refuse to drive thru that area.

  4. If you're not east of Montana yet....stop off at PLENTYWOOD MONTANA..near the eastern Montana border, a little off Hy 2. Interesting little town (the name drew us in!) and has a GREAT city campground (and camping at the fairgrounds)...very inexpensive. We took the 'high line' all the way through North Dakota as well....the only time we had ever been in ND. ND state parks ain't cheap, but ICELANDIC STATE PARK (NE North Dakota) is beautiful and well worth a few nights...non electric MUCH cheaper, showers still included...! Beware the Accursed 'daily entry fee' in ND state parks....!

  5. There is one thriving area in Montana along hwy#2 that I have traveled several times. The towns just west of Glacier known as the tri-city area of Whitefish, Kalispel and Columbia Falls are alive and well. Beautiful country with rivers and Flathead lake, a strong summer tourist destination, and some nice RV parks as well. A lot of things to see and do. Interesting to note, the area also has an International airport.

  8. Shame on you, Chuck..."big rig trucks on the Interstates as they bully their way across the continent, destroying the pavement for the rest of us"??? If it wasn't for the bullying trucks, we wouldn't have gas for our RV's, or food to put in them, or propane, or anything else. My husband was a truck driver, my father was a truck driver, and my grandfather was a truck driver. I know you have respect for that profession and didn't mean that comment the way it sounded. But it did come off as kind of mean.
