I'm in Sacramento, California for a few days in my motorhome before heading off elsewhere. I goofed when I left home a week ago by forgetting to bring along some shirts. There were three in my closet from my last trip, all of which have done two-day duty now. So I headed to the mall to pick up a few more.
It's Nov. 13. Christmas songs were playing in most of the stores. In the middle of the mall, Santa was pacing in his make believe North Pole, looking quite bored. His elves, who doubled as sales people — $29.95 for a photo package of baby Ethan or Emma with Santa — were also milling about, all appearing bored as well. I wondered who would bring their kid to Santa six weeks before Christmas. Don't you think that's too early?
Yes. I don't like seeing Xmas decorations before Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteI earlier I see the start of Christmas decorations in stores, TV, etc., the less I'm inclined to get excited about the holiday anymore. There are some years that I can't wait for January 2nd to get thru the holidays and get on with the new year. I like to decorate the house 7 to 10 days before Christmas and thru New Years Day. A more compressed time period doesn't dilute the memories of Christmas growing up in the '60's.
ReplyDeleteas a professional Santa I keep Christmas all year long, people immediately recognize me as Santa, with that being said, I do NOT accept any public work until after Thanksgiving. I do have people who want me to come to their homes as early as the beginning of Nov, BUT this is for photos for cards.
